Google Meet is getting these new features soon
Automatic Framing: How it works and more
Google Meet can now automatically frame users’ video before joining a meeting. This automatic framing will be done only once to mitigate motion distractions during the meeting. The automatic framing will be done according to the users’ camera placement and they will also have the ability to manually reframe the video at any time from the settings.
It is to be noted that users will have to enable it since the feature will be off by default. The Extended rollout has already started and the gradual rollout will start from November 2.
This feature is available for Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Education Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Workspace Individual customers with eligible devices. Google One subscribers with 2TB or more storage space with eligible devices will also get the feature.
The feature is not available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, Nonprofits, G Suite Basic and Business customers, as well as those with personal Google Accounts.
Google Meet call transcriptions
Looks like Google has taken a cue from Microsoft Teams and will now offer transcripts of meetings on Google Meet. These video calls will now be transcribed and users can save them in a Google Doc format. The feature will be pretty handy, especially at times when a lot of sensitive and important information is shared during a video call.
The transcribed file can be accessed in the “Meeting Recordings” folder of the Google Meet app from the accompanying Google Drive storage. Furthermore, the transcript will automatically be attached to the associated calendar invite for the meeting and it will be shared with all attendees of the meeting with over 200 attendees.
Currently, users depend on third-party apps such as Otter to get transcriptions of their meetings.
Automatic meeting transcriptions in Meet transcribe video meetings and place the content into a Google Doc for later reference will be initially available for English. Transcription support for French, German, Spanish and Portuguese languages is coming in 2023.
Google says that it will start rolling out this week but reports suggest that Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade customers will get it from October 24.
