Ticketmaster cancels Taylor Swift public on-sale for The Eras Tour

There are going to be some really mad Swifties Friday, now that Ticketmaster has announced that tickets for the singer’s Eras Tour — which includes shows July 28 and 29 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara — will not go on sale Friday as scheduled.

That’s because widely publicized glitches in the tour’s pre-sale period this week left organizers with few tickets left to sell.

“Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been canceled,” Ticketmaster said on Twitter.

That means people looking to purchase ducats on Friday for the most highly anticipated tour of 2023 may have to turn to the sky-high prices on the secondary ticket market market if they want to see the multiplatinum-selling pop star in concert.

This latest Swift ticketing news comes after days of grumbling from Swifties on social media about the problems they experienced during the over-crowded presale. Apparently, Ticketmaster was expecting 1.5 million users for the presale, but instead ended up with some 14 million, according to a story from CNBC.

The uproar over the problems grew so great that it caused some to suggest that Ticketmaster should be broken off from parent company Live Nation Entertainment, which also runs the world’s largest concert promotion business. Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010.

Responses to the Ticketmaster tweet were, as one would expect, quite bitter.

“would you guys care to comment on how hundreds of fans with presale AND boosts were unable to get tickets, but hundreds of scalpers were able to get multiple tickets through VERIFIED FAN presale and are now reselling them for THOUSANDS of dollars?” tweeted @ccatiecordova, who is currently going by the name “catie did not get taylor tickets” on Twitter.

YOU HAVE BEEN SELLING TICKETS ONLINE FOR YEARS AND ARE A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY AND YOU’RE TELLING ME YOU STILL CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO RUN A FUNCTIONING WEBSITE AND GET TICKETS INTO THE HANDS OF FANS THERE’S SO MANY WHO STILL DON’T HAVE TICKETS,” @READYFORIT tweeted IN ALL CAPS.
